Important Shanghai Customs Changes
Here are some Important Shanghai Customs Changes For Non Residents. Non Residents to Shanghai with household goods shipments should consult with their employer and or immigration specialist.
The Shanghai Customs has advised that only long term Non Residents (with either their work permit or residence permit validity greater than 365 days and the valid date remaining on the permit/visa should at least 320 plus days) are allowed to import a household goods shipment into Shanghai, China. This regulation will impact all air and sea shipments that require an import permit for clearance and was implemented in Shanghai effective 1 November 2015.
We suggest that all Non Residents to Shanghai with household goods/personal effects should consult with their employer and or immigration specialist to ensure that their permits are issued for more than 365 days. Our suggestion is that employment contracts are signed for 365 or more days.
As the Exit & Entry Bureau does not issue residence permits to HK ID Card Holder / Taiwan ID Card Holder / Macau ID ard Holders, these Nationals should provide their ID Card with validity over 365 days in combination with their Temporary Residence Registration Form to apply for the Import Permit. If the Temporary Residence Registration Form is not issued in Shanghai, the client will need to apply for the Import Permit at Customs in which their residency is listed.
Shanghai Customs will only allow the importation of a maximum of 4 bottles of wine and 800 cigarettes to be included in the sea shipment (shipments from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau or clients that hold HK/Taiwan/Macau ID Card are allowed to import a maximum of 2 bottles of wine and 400 cigarettes). Please note with the exception of Shanghai alcohol cannot be imported into China. There have also been changes (non Shanghai locations) to the number of books, CDs and DVDs that can be imported, we recommend you check with the local Newland office prior to packing to confirm the numer of books, CDs and DVDs that can be included in the air and the sea shipment.
We are feel free to any questions.
